Couples therapy this week, with a PhD or PsyD therapist.

Couples come to us for all kinds of reasons. The argument that keeps coming back. The work of rebuilding trust after a betrayal. The slow drift into feeling more like roommates than partners. Wherever you are, your first joint session can be this week. Every couples therapist on our team holds a PhD or PsyD.

What we treat

Couples therapy, with the rest of our team behind it

Six ways our doctoral team supports couples and the lives they're navigating together. Every clinician PhD or PsyD.

  • Couples therapy

Same-week first joint session, in person or online. For couples who want to fight less, talk more, and feel close again.

  • Premarital and new chapters

Marriage, parenthood, fertility, careers, blended families. Get on the same page before life gets harder.

  • Trust repair after betrayal

Structured doctoral support after infidelity or broken trust. Both partners, together, with a clear path.

  • LGBTQ+ affirmative couples

Same-sex, polyamorous, open relationships, and queer marriages. Affirmative from intake forward.

  • Individual therapy alongside

When one partner also needs solo work. Same practice, same doctoral standard, often the same care plan.

  • Psychiatry on the same team

When one partner's anxiety, ADHD, or depression is showing up in the relationship, our psychiatrists step in. One care plan, not two.

Williamsburg Therapy Group
An online therapy app pairs you with the next available therapist.
A real coordinator picks a doctoral couples therapist for both of you, on a five-minute intake call.
Master's-level therapist with a weekend Gottman or EFT certification.
PhD or PsyD trained in evidence-based couples work as part of doctoral curriculum, not through a short course.
You scroll a directory and pick a name based on a headshot.
We confirm your match in 24 hours, with both partners' schedules and working styles factored in from session one.
Generic 'communication tips' regardless of what you're walking in with.
Therapy shaped around your specific dynamic, whether that's repair after betrayal, conflict de-escalation, intimacy rebuilding, or parenthood transitions.
You handle the out-of-network paperwork alone and hope for reimbursement.
Reimbursify files your OON claim for you, and most plans pay back 50 to 80 percent of the session fee.

Why Williamsburg Therapy Group

Five reasons couples choose WTG

Where doctoral training meets actual couples work.

  • Doctoral, couples-experienced clinicians

Only PhD and PsyD therapists with couples-specific training. Not master's-level with a weekend Gottman or EFT certification.

  • Your therapist works for the relationship, not either partner

No taking sides, no ganging up, no being told one of you is the problem. Each of you should feel heard, and each of you should be challenged in the places that move the relationship forward.

  • Both of you in the room from session one

No 'come to a screening session alone, bring your partner later.' Joint work starts at session 1, the way couples work is meant to be.

  • Real coordinator match in 24 hours

Not a quiz, not an algorithm. A person on our team listens to where your relationship is and pairs you with the doctoral therapist who's the right fit for both of you. Match confirmed within 24 hours.

  • Same therapist for as long as you're both in the work

We match you once. You don't restart with a new clinician every time someone leaves the practice.

Common questions

Everything couples ask before the first session

How much does couples therapy cost, and how long will it take?
Sessions are $280 to $380 each. Most couples meet weekly to start, often shifting to every other week once the early momentum builds. Couples doing focused repair (after a betrayal, around communication, around de-escalation) often see meaningful change in 12 to 20 sessions. Couples working on deeper attachment patterns may stay longer. Your therapist will set goals with you in the first sessions and check progress regularly. We're not in the business of keeping couples in therapy forever.
Do you take my insurance for couples therapy?
We're a cash-pay practice, so we don't bill insurance directly. Most couples use out-of-network benefits and get reimbursed 50 to 80 percent of the session fee. We give you a superbill and partner with Reimbursify, a claim-filing service, that submits it to your insurer for you.
What if my partner doesn't want to come yet?
Start solo. Many couples begin with one partner doing individual work first. We can pivot to joint sessions when your partner is ready, or your coordinator can suggest how to invite them into the work.
Will the therapist take sides between us?
No. Our couples therapists work for the relationship, not for either partner. Both of you should feel heard, both of you should feel challenged when it's useful, and neither of you should feel ganged up on. Tell your therapist directly if you ever feel that's slipping; that conversation is part of the work.
What happens in the first joint session?
Both of you will meet your therapist together. Expect questions about how you met, how things have been lately, and what each of you hopes to get out of therapy. No homework on day one. Just an honest start to the work, with both of you in the room.
