What we treat

No kid gets better in a vacuum

Six ways we support kids, the parents raising them, and the family around them, depending on what's actually going on.

  • Child therapy

One-on-one sessions with a doctoral child clinician for kids working through anxiety, behavior, school stress, social issues, or family changes.

  • Teen therapy

What works for a 9-year-old doesn't work for a 15-year-old. Our teen therapists are trained for the developmental stage, the social pressure, and the things teens won't say out loud at home.

  • Pediatric psychiatry

Board-certified pediatric psychiatrists when ADHD, anxiety, or mood needs medication alongside therapy. One care plan, not two.

  • Parenting support

For when the meltdowns, conversations, or rules that used to work have stopped working. Paired with your child's therapy so you and the therapist are running the same plan.

  • Family therapy alongside

When what your kid is going through is also happening to the family. A family therapist works alongside your child's therapist, with both of them on one shared plan.

  • Crisis support for kids in distress

When something has just happened, a hospitalization, a school crisis, or a sudden change at home, we move fast. First session this week, with the same team that carries the ongoing work.

How we're different

Most child therapy practices can do one thing well. We're built to do more.

The five things that go wrong with most child therapy practices, and what happens when none of them go wrong at Williamsburg Therapy Group.

Most therapy practices
Williamsburg Therapy Group
A solo child psychologist who can't help if your kid needs psychiatry or your family needs separate therapy.
A multi-clinician doctoral team, your kid's therapist, your therapist, your psychiatrist (if needed) all on the same care plan.
Master's-level therapist with a parent-training certification but no doctoral child psychology training.
PhD or PsyD child clinicians trained specifically for child psychology, with pediatric psychiatrists on the same team.
Your child sees a therapist and you're left guessing what they're working on.
Your child's therapist gives you regular updates on goals and progress, with parent support sessions built in when needed.
Six-week waitlist before your child can get started.
Most kids have their first session the same week you call, match confirmed within 24 hours.
Out-of-network paperwork dumped on you to figure out alone.
Reimbursify files your OON claim for you, and most plans pay back 50 to 80 percent of the session fee.
How it works

From your first call to your child's first session in seven days

A coordinator picks up, asks three questions about your kid, and gets the right doctoral therapist matched and scheduled by the end of the week.

  1. 1

Call or fill up our form

Reach our patient coordinator by phone or online. A real person gets back to you the same day, on a five-minute call.

  2. 2

    Get matched in 24 hours

A coordinator picks the right child therapist for your kid based on what's going on, how old they are, and the kind of personality they respond to.

  3. 3

    First session

Meet in person or over secure video, often within the same week. Parents sit in for the first part if your child is younger or anxious.

  4. 4

    Make progress

Regular check-ins from your child's therapist, paced to your kid's age, with goals specific enough that you can tell whether things are actually shifting at home.

Why Williamsburg Therapy Group

Five reasons parents choose WTG for their kids

Where doctoral training meets actual kids and teens.

  • Only doctoral-level child therapists

PhD and PsyD only, with doctoral child psychology training. Most practices run child therapy through master's-level clinicians with weekend certifications. We don't.

  • Pediatric psychiatry on the same team

When ADHD, anxiety, or mood needs medication, the same care team handles both. One care plan, with the therapist and the psychiatrist actually talking to each other.

  • Built for kids who don't want to be there

Reluctant kids and quiet teens are normal. Our child therapists know how to start the work even when your kid isn't ready to talk yet, with activities, side conversations, or just sitting together until trust builds.

  • Parent communication cadence that fits your kid's age

Younger kids: regular updates on goals and progress, plus parent sessions when you need them. Teens: their sessions stay private, but the therapist is in touch with you if there's something you'd want to know about your kid's safety or wellbeing.

  • Real coordinator match in 24 hours

Not a quiz, not an algorithm. A person on our team listens to your kid's situation and pairs them with the right clinician. Match confirmed within 24 hours.

Common questions

Everything parents ask before their child's first session

How much does child therapy cost, and how long will it take?
Sessions are $280 to $380 each. Most kids meet weekly to start, often shifting to every other week once the early momentum builds. Children doing focused work (specific anxiety, school behavior, social skills) often see meaningful change in 12 to 20 sessions. Kids working on deeper patterns may stay longer. Your child's therapist will set goals with you in the first sessions and check progress regularly. We're not in the business of keeping kids in therapy forever.
What if my kid hates the first session and refuses to go back?
It happens, especially with reluctant kids and teens. Our doctoral child therapists are trained to make the first session low-pressure, sometimes that means parents stay for part of it, sometimes it means the kid does an activity instead of talking. If the fit isn't right, your coordinator will re-match you with a different clinician on the team. We expect some kids to need a second try; you don't have to start over from scratch.
Will my child's therapist tell me what they say in session?
The cadence depends on your child's age. For younger kids, expect regular updates on goals and progress and parent sessions when they're useful. For teens, the work itself stays private, but the therapist will be in touch with you about anything related to safety or wellbeing. Your therapist will lay all of this out with both of you in the first sessions, so no one is guessing what gets shared.
How young is too young for therapy?
Most of our child therapists work with kids age 5 and up. For younger children, we often focus more on parent coaching, where you learn the skills to support your child at home. Your coordinator can tell you which approach fits your child's age.
Can my child see a separate therapist on the same team if family therapy is also needed?
Yes, and many families do exactly that. Your child has their own sessions with a child therapist, you have yours with your therapist, and a family therapist leads the sessions where you all meet together. With your consent, the team shares notes so everyone is working from the same plan.
