Marriage counseling this week, with a PhD or PsyD therapist.

You've probably already tried. The same argument. The broken trust. The years of distance. Asking yourself the honest question of whether it's still fixable. Your first joint session can be this week, with a PhD or PsyD marriage counselor who works for the marriage, not either spouse.

What we treat

Designed for the marriage you've spent years building

Six ways our doctoral team helps spouses fight for what they've already invested in. Every clinician holds a PhD or PsyD.

  • Marriage counseling

Same-week first joint session, in person or online. For spouses who want a counselor as serious about the marriage as they are.

  • Trust repair after betrayal

Structured doctoral support after infidelity, financial deception, or broken trust. Both spouses, together, with a clear path.

  • When you're not sure if it's fixable

For spouses asking if the marriage is still worth saving. Your counselor helps you see it honestly, without pushing either of you toward staying or leaving.

  • LGBTQ+ affirmative marriage

For same-sex and queer marriages. Counselors who don't need the dynamic explained to them and won't treat your marriage as a special case. Affirmative from the first call forward.

  • Family and co-parenting alongside

When marriage tension is showing up in the kids, our child and family clinicians step in alongside the marriage counselor. One team, one care plan.

  • Psychiatry on the same team

When one spouse's anxiety, ADHD, or depression is showing up in the marriage, our psychiatrists step in.

How we're different

What separates WTG from the marriage counseling you'll find elsewhere else

Five real differences between the marriage counseling you'll find elsewhere and how we work.

Most therapy practices
Williamsburg Therapy Group
A 'high-performance' boutique with a single Gottman or EFT track running marriage work.
PhD and PsyD counselors trained in multiple evidence-based methods, so your marriage gets the approach that fits it instead of one method applied to every couple who walks in.
Master's-level counselor with a weekend certification on top of a master's degree.
Only doctoral clinicians, who spent years studying and practicing marriage work as part of their PhD or PsyD, not as a certificate added on later.
You scroll a directory and pick a name based on a headshot and a paragraph bio.
A real coordinator picks the marriage counselor for both spouses on a five-minute call and confirms your match within 24 hours.
Generic communication tips that don't address what years of marriage actually do to a relationship.
Sessions tailored around what your marriage actually needs, whether that's infidelity repair, reconnection after years of drift, parenthood transitions, or pre-divorce clarity.
You handle out-of-network paperwork alone and hope for reimbursement.
Reimbursify files your out-of-network claim for you, and most plans reimburse 50 to 80 percent of the session fee.
How it works

Four steps from your first call to your first joint session

It takes less than five minutes to start. No long forms, no chatbots, a real person answers and asks a few questions about where your marriage is.

  1. 1

    Call or tap to book

Reach our patient coordinator by phone or online. A real person gets back to you the same day, on a five-minute call.

  2. 2

    Get matched in 24 hours

We pair you with a doctoral marriage counselor whose experience fits what's going on in your home, both your schedules, and how each of you likes to work. Match confirmed within 24 hours.

  3. 3

    First joint session

Both of you meet your counselor together, in person or over secure video, often the same week as your intake appointment.

  4. 4

    Make progress

You'll leave each session with concrete tools to use at home, things to say when an argument starts spiraling, structured ways to talk through hard topics, and small repair practices that actually work.

Why Williamsburg Therapy Group

Five reasons high-stakes marriages choose WTG

Where doctoral training meets marriages worth fighting for.

  • Doctoral, marriage-experienced clinicians

Only PhD and PsyD therapists with marriage-specific training. Not master's-level with a weekend Gottman or EFT certification.

  • Your counselor works for the marriage, not either spouse

No taking sides, no ganging up, no being told one of you is the problem. Each of you should feel heard, each of you should feel challenged when it's useful.

  • Both spouses in the room from session one

Some practices ask one spouse to come alone first for a screening session, then bring the other in later. We don't. Joint work starts at session one, with both of you in the room.

  • Multi-method, not single-brand

Most boutique marriage practices pick one method and apply it to every couple they see. Our doctoral counselors are trained across several proven approaches and use the right one for you.

  • Designed for marriages with years to protect

Years invested, kids, shared finances, and a shared life. We treat marriage counseling with the seriousness those decades deserve.

Common questions

Everything spouses ask before the first session

How much does marriage counseling cost, and how long will it take?
Sessions are $280 to $380 each. Most marriages meet weekly to start, often moving to every other week once the early momentum builds. Marriages doing focused repair (after a betrayal, around communication, around staying-together skill-building) often see meaningful change in 12 to 20 sessions. Marriages working on deeper attachment patterns or pre-divorce clarity may stay longer. Your counselor will set goals with you in the first sessions and check progress regularly. We're not in the business of keeping marriages in counseling forever.
Is our marriage too far gone for counseling?
Probably not, even if it feels that way today. Our doctoral counselors regularly work with marriages that have been struggling for years, after infidelity, after long stretches of disconnection, and when one or both spouses are unsure whether they want to stay. The first session is not about deciding the outcome. It's about getting an honest read on where the marriage is and what's possible from here.
What if my spouse refuses to come?
Start on your own. Many marriages begin counseling with one spouse working individually first. We can pivot to joint sessions when your partner is ready, or your coordinator can help you figure out how to start the conversation at home.
Will the counselor side with one of us?
No, our marriage counselors work for the marriage, not for either spouse. Both of you should feel heard, both of you should feel challenged where it actually moves the marriage forward, and neither of you should feel outnumbered in the room. If you ever feel that balance shifting, tell your counselor directly. That conversation is part of the work.
Are you Gottman or EFT certified?
Our doctoral counselors are trained in multiple evidence-based methods, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, interpersonal therapy, and psychodynamic approaches. Some of our clinicians have specific Gottman or EFT training; your coordinator can match you with one if a named modality matters to you. We focus on what works for your specific marriage, not a single brand-name method.
